Robert Greene The Daily Laws July 20 · Be a Source of Pleasure

No one wants to hear about your problems and troubles. Listen to your targets’ complaints, but more important, distract them from their problems by giving them pleasure. (Do this often enough and they will fall under your spell.) An energetic presence is more charming than lethargy, which hints at boredom, an enormous social taboo; and elegance and style will usually win out over vulgarity, since most people like to associate themselves with whatever they think elevated and cultured.

Daily Law: Being lighthearted and fun is always more charming than being serious and critical.

The Art of Seduction

: The Charmer

Steven Pressfield The Daily Pressfield Day 201

SUFFERING = INSIGHT = CHANGE You, the writer, invent your hero’s suffering in order to make her change. What ordeal, you ask yourself, can I put my protagonist through that will compel her to deepen her understanding of life and of herself, that will force her to confront some issue she has either been oblivious to or deliberately hiding from, that will make her change and grow (even if that change and growth involve further suffering)? You ask yourself that because if you didn’t ask it, there would be no story. Black Irish JAB #9, “Make Your Hero Suffer” We as writers must also ask, “What kind of suffering should our hero undergo?”

Leo Tolstoy A Calendar of Wisdom July 20

The feeling of compassion for other living beings reminds me of the feeling of pain in our body.

Just as you can become less sensitive to pain in your body with time, you can become less compassionate to others.

The first condition to bringing religion into your life is manifesting love and pity toward all living creatures.

—CHINESE WISDOM

Compassion for animals is closely connected with character type.

You can say with confidence that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a kind man.

—ARTHUR SCHOPENHAUER

Every murder is terrible.

But most terrible is the murder in which you want to eat the creature you have killed, when you kill for the satisfaction of your stomach.

—MIKHAIL GOLDSTEIN

When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him.

III Signals & Dispatches

AI / ML

  • @OpenAIsource ↗ OpenAI says GPT 5.6 Sol set a new cybersecurity benchmark and is being productized through Codex Security for defensive code review.
  • @GoogleDeepMindsource ↗ Google DeepMind argues that scientific AI agents now face a real world validation bottleneck, not just a model quality bottleneck.

Drug Discovery

  • @FierceBiotechsource ↗ Jennifer Doudna is moving into AI powered protein design, a strong signal that gene editing and generative biology are converging.
  • @GENbiosource ↗ AI designed synthetic CRISPR like nucleases are showing activity in cells, pushing model designed enzymes closer to practical editing tools.

Biotech

  • @GENbiosource ↗ In vivo CAR T is advancing, but viral and lipid nanoparticle delivery still leave off target and manufacturing challenges on the table.
  • @FierceBiotechsource ↗ Takeda reported phase 3 zasocitinib data showing scalp psoriasis clearance or near clearance in 75 percent of patients.

Tech

  • @SemiAnalysis_source ↗ SemiAnalysis says Anthropic appears to be evaluating AMD hardware, with the key open question still software quality and infrastructure maturity.
  • @nvidiasource ↗ NVIDIA is framing Vera Rubin around cheaper inference for specialized agents trained with reinforcement learning post training.

Japanese Politics

  • @nikkeisource ↗ Nikkei reports that medical cost reform language was softened after a timing fight between Ishin and the LDP bureaucracy.
  • @nikkeisource ↗ The argument over year end versus fiscal year end shows how small wording choices still decide the pace of Japanese policy reform.

V What Rex Can Do Today
  1. Check email and calendar for anything that needs a reply before lunch.
  2. Draft two concise LinkedIn or X replies from the strongest AI and biotech items.
  3. Scan the Fr. Conor pipeline and flag any proofing or publishing failures.
VI Toward the Long Game
  1. Read one recent paper on AI guided protein or peptide design and extract one practical idea for StemRIM.
  2. Spend 30 minutes with a hands on LLM agent workflow, preferably code review or data extraction.
  3. Identify one biotech or AI contact worth a short, specific networking note this week.
