Robert Greene The Daily Laws July 27 · Know When to Be Bold

The more timidity a lover shows with us the more it concerns our pride to goad him on; the more respect he has for our resistance, the more respect we demand of him. We would willingly say to you men. Ah, in pity’s name do not suppose us to be so very virtuous; you are forcing us to have too much of it.

—Ninon de l’Enclos

No one is born timid; timidity is a protection we develop. If we never stick our necks out, if we never try, we will never have to suffer the consequences of failure or success. If we are kind and unobtrusive, no one will be offended—in fact, we will seem saintly and likable. In truth, timid people are often self-absorbed, obsessed with the way people see them, and not at all saintly. And humility may have its social uses, but it is deadly in seduction. You need to be able to play the humble saint at times; it is a mask you wear. But in seduction, take it off. Boldness is bracing, erotic, and absolutely necessary to bring the seduction to its conclusion. Done right, it tells your targets that they have made you lose your normal restraint, and gives them license to do so as well. People are yearning to have a chance to play out the repressed sides of their personality.

Daily Law: At the final stage of a seduction, boldness eliminates any awkwardness or doubts.

Steven Pressfield The Daily Pressfield Day 208

THE HERO’S JOURNEY IS A PRODUCT OF RESISTANCE Before the journey, the hero is mired in Resistance. He’s stuck. He’s going nowhere. Like Luke Skywalker repairing binary evaporators on Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru’s moisture farm on the planet Tatooine, he is miserable, marooned, pissed off. He feels like he’s dying. If he stays where he is, he wi ll die. Unpublished Black Irish JAB, “The Hero’s Journey” Maybe the Call takes the form of an external event. The unnamed narrator (Edward Norton) meets Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) in Fight Club. Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) stumbles upon the silent “caterpillar drive” in The Hunt for Red October. More often the Call comes from within. Some seismic shift occurs far below the level of consciousness, and this shift creates a pressure that impels us out of our pre-journey Ordinary World.

Leo Tolstoy A Calendar of Wisdom July 27

Knowledge is a tool, not a purpose.

People know little, because they try to understand those things which are not open to them for understanding: God, eternity, spirit; or those which are not worth thinking about: how water becomes frozen, or a new theory of numbers, or how viruses can transmit illnesses.

How to live your life is the only real knowledge.

People who think that the most important thing in life is knowledge remind me of a butterfly who flies into the flame of a candle, and in so doing burns, and extinguishes the light.

The title “scholar” suggests that a person has gone to school, and that he studied, but it does not mean that he has acquired any truly important knowledge.

—GEORGE LICHTENBERG

The purpose of life is the fulfillment of the law of God, not the acquisition of ever more knowledge.

V What Rex Can Do Today
  1. Check whether any new StemRIM or Redasemtide news needs a concise internal brief.
  2. Triage unread email for anything urgent, skipping Substack noise.
  3. Draft one short LinkedIn or X comment from today’s AI drug discovery papers if a useful angle appears.
VI Toward the Long Game
  1. Read the DBMol preprint and extract the architecture, optimization loop, and peptide relevance in ten bullets.
  2. Spend 30 minutes comparing Boltz 2 style affinity signals with classical docking and MM GBSA assumptions.
  3. Build one small notebook that scores a public protein ligand example with uncertainty noted, not just point affinity.
